Obituary:
Jacob Shuey was born in Augusta County,Virginia on the 20th of June,1797 and died in Johnson County,Iowa on the 30th of October 1867 aged 70 years 4 months and 10 days. He embraced the Christian religion at the age of 17 years and joined the U. B. Church at the time of his conversion; since he lived a faithful Christian and an honorable member of the Church for a period of 53 years. As a husband ,he was pleasant and companionable; as a father he was affectionate and kind; as a neighbor, , he was obliging and peaceful and as a citizen he commanded the respect of all classes. A few days before his death he selected the 4th,7th and 8th verses of the 4th chapter 2d Timothy for his funeral test and the minister to preach on the occasion. He died as he lived with unfaltering faith in Christ and great peace with God.
