Isaac Franklin Odekirk is the son of Isaac Odekirk and Eliza Dutcher. He married Margaret Elizabeth Dana, November 1, 1869 in the Endowment House, Salt Lake City, Salt City, Utah.
BRIEF HISTORY
Isaac Franklin Odekirk was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa during his father's move west with the Mormon Church members in 1848. He was three years old when the family arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah. When Isaac was 16, the family moved to Montpelier, Idaho. It was here he met Margaret Dana who had come to live with her brother, Charles Dana, and his wife, Hannah Odekirk, who was Isaac Franklin's sister. Isaac Franklin and Margaret, accompanied by Charles Dana and Hannah (Odekirk) Dana made the trip to Salt Lake City by wagon to be married at the Endowment House. In 1876, they moved from Montpelier, Idaho to Garden City, Utah on the West Shore of Bear Lake. In 1884, at the request of President Brigham Young, Isaac Franklin and his brothers moved to Ashley Valley, Utah.
He bought a 40 acre farm two miles southeast of Vernal, Utah. He went into the sheep business and ran the sheep in the high Uintah Mountains on Taylor Mountain. After thirty years of farming and sheep herding, he retired and moved to Duchesne, Utah to live near his children. He died suddenly at Duchesne in 1916 and is buried at the Duchesne Cemetery. He was a member of the Mormon Church and held the priesthood in the Seventies Quorum.
