Dorothy Irene was born on July 30, 1922 near Crab Orchard, Nebraska to Andrew and Carrie (Strawder) Sorenson.
Dorothy lived most of her life in Filley, Nebraska until moving to Beatrice, Nebraska in 1992.
She married Cecil Brittain on October 4, 1941 in Marysville, Kansas. They were blessed with two daughters and a son.
Dorothy was a cook at the Filley School for 26 years, being head cook for 23 of them. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a Gold Star member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Crab Orchard.
Dorothy enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, cooking and especially caring for and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by 2 daughters: Carol Wolfe, Donna (Jim) Schultze, both of Beatrice; son, Kent (Linda) Brittain of Omaha;8 grandchildren: Jerry Wolfe, Rjay Wolfe, both of Lincoln; Carrie (Kevin) Thurston of Nicollet, Minnesota; Craig (Donna)Schultze of Beatrice; Eric (Kari) Schultze of Linn Creek, Missouri; Jamie (Michael)Houser of Wilber, Nebraska; Dustin (Kelly) Clark, Hayley (Scott)LeMay, both of Omaha; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Lovitt of Crab Orchard; brother-in-law, Ardith Brittain of Lincoln; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Jessie Sorenson; husband, Cecil on July 20, 1998; 4 brothers: Roscoe, Raymond, Leland and Fred; and 2 sisters, Bessie Jeffery and Anne Sikyta.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, March 3, 2017 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice with Pastor Clifford Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the Filley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday and 9 AM to noon Friday at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the Filley Cemetery or Beatrice Community Hospital (BCH) Hospice.
