She married Milton on May 21, 1942 and raised their three children in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she lived until 1998, when she moved to Atlanta. Doddie worked at various jobs as an adult, beginning with support for the war effort during World War II, in Washington D.C. She most enjoyed her years as a personal fashion consultant.
