Death of Orrin E Livermore
Retired Contractor Passes Away – Was Former Alderman and Prominent in Baptist Church
Orrin E Livermore, 74, died at his home on West street, Sunday night, after an illness of several weeks. Mr Livermore went to Northampton from Peru in 1863, and followed the trade of carpenter until he became a member of the contracting firm of Smith & Livermore. This firm and the firm of Livermore & Bradley, of which he was later a member, erected many of the important buildings of the city. Mr Livermore retired from active business several years ago. He had been prominent in various capacities, having served the city as member of the city council and board of aldermen, and held nearly all the offices which could be bestowed upon him by the Baptist church, of which he was a devoted member. He had been deacon of the church 41 years, moderator and Sunday-school superintendent. His loss will be keenly felt in the Baptist church and in the Westfield Baptist association, of which he had been treasurer 26 years. Mr Livermore was a member of Jerusalem lodge of Freemasons and Nonotuck lodge of Odd Fellows, and was held in high esteem by the people of Northampton and the surrounding towns. He was kindly and obliging in disposition, upright in all his dealings, and active and efficient in the work of the various offices which he held on behalf of the city and the church. Mr Livermore was married in 1860 to Elizabeth W Ferguson of Peru, who survives him. He is also survived by three children, Mrs John W Draper and Carleton D Livermore of Northampton and Mrs Louis Parent of Spokane, Wash. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2.30 in the Baptist church, Rev J C Breaker officiating.
