Fleming was the son of R. and W. Atkinson. He married Lucretia A. Linkenhoker in Montgomery Co., VA on December 5, 1867. They were the parents of Charles and O. Rosler.

Bluefield, W Va, March 28. - F W Atkinson, one of the oldest and best known of Bluefield's citizens, died Thursday night at his home on Lee street, after an illness of two weeks. Mr Atkinsson was born in Bedford county. In early manhood he moved to Montgomery county, Va, where he married Miss L A Linkenhoker. He later removed to Summers county, W Va, and when the coalfields opened he came to Pocahontas. Several years after the death of his wife he married Miss Laura Fishnet, who also preceded him to the grave. Mr Atkinson removed to Bluefield about fifteen years ago.

He is survived by six children - Mrs F T Hutson, of Keystone, Mrs Mary Cofer, Miss Ellen Reed, Mrs Rosalie Davis, Misses Caritta and Minerva Atkinson, of Bluefield; Mr C C Atkinson, of Newport News, Va, and Mr O R Atkinson, of Portsmouth, O.
