Nelda Lee Conrad, died late Wednesday evening, Feb. 22, 2017, at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home, Blackwell, at the age of 88 years.
Nelda was born on Oct. 17, 1928, in Marion County, Ark., the daughter of Deavy J. and Bertha Lee Harris Barnett. As a young girl she moved with her family to Cleveland, Okla., where she attended school. Following her education she worked various jobs before marrying L B Conrad on Jan. 29, 1948, in Wellington, Kan. Following their marriage, they moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she served her family as a homemaker. In 1949 they moved to Blackwell and she began working for the Hazel-Atlas Glass Plant. When they started their family she returned to the home and later worked as a cake decorator. She was an active member of First Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday School, worked in vacation bible school and served as Sunday School secretary and children’s director. She also enjoyed working in the garden, painting ceramics and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Bouska and husband Herman, of Blackwell and Pamela Conrad, of Blackwell; a son, Ronald Conrad and wife Kathy, of Blackwell; two brothers, Devoine Barnett, of Barnsdall and Jack Barnett, of Cleveland; a sister, Barbara Alsup, of Bristow; three grandchildren, Candy Bouska, of Blackwell, Laura Munger and husband James, of Suwanee, Ga. and Grady Conrad, of Norman; two great-grandchildren, Edward and Kaylynn White, of Suwanee, Ga. and a great-great-grandchild, Aurora White, of Suwanee, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Uel and Jewel and a sister, Idella.
A service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27 at First Assembly of God Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Bill McKissick officiating. Burial will follow in Blackwell Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be her church family. Honorary casket bearers will be Grady Conrad and Edward White.
A memorial has been established in her honor with First Assembly of God Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.
