Herbert H. Hood Jr. was born to Herbert Sr. and Mary Alice Hood (Dusick) in San Diego, CA.
He enlisted (the first of three enlistments) in the U.S. Navy. All three tours were served on the USS General J.C. Breckenridge, touring the Asiatic Pacific, receiving the Victory Medal WWII, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Area Ribbon. After the navy, in early 1948, Herbert was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in San Diego. In 1980, after 32 years, he retired.
