Daughter of James A. Wicks and Catherine (maiden name unknown). She was the eldest daughter, and her sisters were: Josephine M (b.c.1858 NC), Lovie or Lorie (b.c. 1859 NC) and Laura (b.c.1860 FL). Married Henry B. Barker about 1873. Mary was buried at Evergreen Cemetery on 14 May 1934.


Admitted into United Daughters of the Confederacy on December 1909 in the Martha Reid Chapter 19 upon the service of her father, James A. Hicks who died 17 February 1864 as a crew member of the Confederate submarine, H L Hunley. UDC Florida Division Honorary President, elected 1932.
