Daniel A. Aitken, age 65, of Wabasha, died late Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha. He was born August 4, 1951 in Lake City, the oldest child of Marlyn and Elaine (Glaus) Aitken. He was a 1969 graduate of Wabasha High School. Dan married Joan Mountin October 18, 1969 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Lake City. After high school he was employed by Wabasha Sand and Gravel working in the yard as a rock washer. He then became a trucker, first with Wilson Transport from Red Wing and then for Bud Meyer Trucking in Lake City. He continued working there when the business was sold to Covenant Trucking and later to Foodliner. While at Foodliner he also worked as a dispatcher and its Safety Manager for the drivers.

Dan was a member and past moderator of the Wabasha United Church of Christ. He also was a past member of the City of Wabasha Park Board. In his earlier years he was a member of the Wabasha Jaycees. He was a master gardener and he enjoyed fishing. Dan’s true love was spending time with his family and many friends and his cat, Simba AKA LeRoy.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Aitken, Wabasha, MN; children and spouses, Shelly and Dale Hoffman, Kellogg, MN, Michael Aitken, Little Falls, MN, Christy and Jim Kutchma, Winona, MN, Charlie and Jill Aitken, Rochester, MN; eight grandchildren, Tyler and Sierra, Amanda, Logan, Gabriel, Emily, Vance and Adeline; three great-grandchildren, Willow, Gavin and Finleigh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim Aitken, Wabasha, MN, Don and Lisa Aitken, Lake City, MN, Jeff and Paula Aitken, Wabasha, MN; aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlyn and Elaine Aitken, two infant sisters, sister-in-law, Denise Aitken, and niece, Kimberlee Aitken.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11:00am at the Wabasha United Church of Christ. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Monday from 4-8pm and at the church on Tuesday one hour before the service.
