Bohumil Oravecz came to America in 1911 on the ship Koln. He accompanied his girlfriend Mary Zgazar and her mother and sisters. They landed in Galveston, Texas with the destination of Yoakum, Texas. Bohumil and Mary married after they reached Yoakum. They had a son Roland and a daughter Betty. They divorced after a few years when the children were still very young. The two children had no contact with their dad during the time they were growing up. Their mother told them very little about their dad, except that he was dead (which was untrue.) Bohumil ended up in Austin where he worked as a sign painter. He also painted pictures. He later had another daughter, Stella Oravecz. He was briefly reunited with his children in the early 1940's, when they found that he was alive and living in Austin. In 1947 he was hospitalized with cancer and complications of peritonitis. He died on October 27, 1947. His second family had been in charge of the arrangements and his first family did not have much information regarding his funeral and interment.
Just recently, my husband, Bohumil's grandson, did research in Austin, trying to find his grandpa's grave. His death certificate and his obituary both say that he was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin. As of November 7, 2006, the cemetery officials can find no record of him being buried there and we have been unable to locate records of his burial in any other cemetery.

MARCH 21, 2007 UPDATE: Records found in Austin memorial Park Cemetery listing online. As stated Bohumil Oravecz is buried in Austin Memorial Park - PLOT 9,256,3 (was buried on October 29, 1947) but the record had his name spelled wrong and there was no gravestone.

MAY 11, 2007 UPDATE: After 60 years with nothing marking his grave site, two of Bohumils's grandsons have taken care of a great oversite and have supplied Bohumil Oravecz with the recognition he deserves - he now has a gravestone.
