John D. Hill, 61, Mercersburg R. D. 1, died unexpectedly at 4:25 a.m. Saturday in the Fulton county Medical Center, McConnellsburg, several hours after admission.

Born Jan. 14, 1911 in Cove Gap, he was the son of Mrs. Edith V. (Graham) Hill, Mercersburg R. D. 3, and the late Cloyd Hill.

He was a member of the Charlestown United Methodist Church, Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241, Wesley Yeager American Legion Post 606 at Ft. Loudon and the Mercersburg Sportsmen's Association.

Mr. Hill was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a masonry contractor and had served as a fire warden for more than 25 years.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maud (Ensminger) Hill; one daughter, Mrs. Chester Keefer, Mercersburg R. d. 1; one son, John D. Hill Jr., Mercersburg R. D. 1; five grandchildren; five sisters: Miss Carrie Hill, Mercersburg R. D. 3; Miss Elmira Hill, Mercersburg; Mrs. Frank Epps, Dunedin, Fla.; Mrs. Frank Snyder, Mercersburg R d. 2; Mrs. Harold Mcculloch Jr., Mercersburg and one brother, Cranston Hill, Mercersburg R. D. 3.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lininger Funeral Home, Mercersburg, in charge of the Rev. Lewis A. Crouse. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 6241.
