Obadiah T. Blitch, born 1844 in Duval County, FL enlisted with Capt. Hopkins Sep 22, 1862 at Waynesville, GA. He served in Co. A of the 24th Battalion Georgia Cavalry until the 7th Regiment, GA Cavalry was organized. At this time Co. A of the 24th became Co. G of the 7th. Pvt. Blitch was captured during the Battle of Trevillian Station near Louisa Court House, VA. He was received at Fortress Monroe June 20th, sent to Point Lookout MD and transferred to Elmira Prison, NY Jul 25, 1864. He was selected for exchange of prisoners Oct. 11, 1864 and the actual exchange took place on Oct. 29th. O. T. Blitch surrendered and was paroled at Thomasville, GA May 23, 1865.

Pvt O. T. Blitch is buried at Patterson Cemetery (Bethlehem Baptist Church) in Pierce County, GA.

Obediah Thomas Blitch, 87, died yesterday at his home, 3802 Dartmouth avenue. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the J. L. Reed & Son funeral home. The body was sent to Blackshear, Ga., for interment. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harriett Lopez, of Tampa.

First married Valoria Odum abt 1867 & with her 3 children were born; after her death, he married Hattie M. Dukes abt 1887 & with her had 6 children.

Obediah T. Blitch was a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, MD. He was exchanged 10/20/1864. He was paroled 5/23/1865, in Thomasville, GA. Records also include his Power of Attorney and his handwritten application for pension. There is also a doctor's affidavit. He surrendered at Appomattox, VA.
