Lyle Barker, Fairmont, formerly of Medford, died Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Fairmont Community Hospital. He was 75. Mr. Barker was born March 29, 1915, in Owatonna. He graduated from Medford High School in 1933. Mr. Barker was employed by the Medford bank before serving in the U.S. Army from 1942-46. On Aug. 27, 1942, he married Orel Kaplan at Falmouth, Mass. Following Mr. Barkers return from the service, the couple made their home in Fairmont. Mr. Barker was employed by First National Bank before beginning his own business, Barkers Real Estate and Insurance Co. Mr. Barker owned the company until 1960 when he purchased Fairmont Cast Stone Co. He retired in 1985. Mr. Barker was a member of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, and many Fairmont organizations including the Fairmont Chamber of Commerce, the Senior Chamber of Commerce of which he was past president, American Legion and the Fairmont Rifle and Pistol Club. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, and was known for helping to bring North Central Airlines to Fairmont. Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Orel; two sons, Kent of Eagan, Stephen of Jordan; a brother, Lloyd of Medford; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Fairmont. There will be no visitation.
