Robert Hart Is Dead

Life's Struggle Terminated at 5:45 o'clock Yesterday Afternoon

A Valued Citizen Lost To The Community

The Record of an Honest, Able Man - His Services in Upper Nyack - A Review of His Character - St. Paul's Church Will Miss Him - The Funeral to be Held on Friday - We All Do Fade as a Leaf.

The band of death stilled the pulse of Robert Hart, of Upper Nyack, at 5:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after his splendid constitution had long resisted the ravages of a complication of insidious diseases. For the past two weeks his friends have known that the last of earth was near, but not until yesterday did he lapse into the unconsciousness which indicated the rapid approach of final dissolution. Had Mr. Hart lived until Wednesday next be would have been 55 years old.

Mr. Hart, whose upright life and gentleness of character will long be remembered by all who knew him, died firm in a saving faith and had no fear that Divine presence would not sustain him in the swelling waters of the Jordan. He was quiet, earnest exemplification Christianity and has won eternal life.

Mr. Hart was long identified with the interests of St. Paul's M. E. Church, of this place, and was for many years a trustee of the old Stone Church at Upper Nyack. During the recent controversy over the property, he left a sick bed to defend what he believed to be the rights he was called upon to protect. No man ever knew Robert Hart to be false to a trust, and his word was as good as his bond.

Mr. Hart's sorrowing family consists of a widow, who is the daughter of Mr. John G. Perry, and two daughters, Miss Minnie Hart and Mrs. Tunis S. Dutcher. It was devoted household, and Death's great shadow wraps it as in mighty mantle of grief. Indeed, throughout the wide circle of Mr. Hart's friends and acquaintances there is a deep sense of personal loss.

Mr. Hart served Upper Nyack faithfully as a Trustee, as President and as a citizen. His judgment was good and his integrity unquestioned. As a surveyor, he did some of the most important work in this vicinity, and he was often called upon for professional consultation. He was a great reader, and had a mind which only those who knew him well could appreciate. Indeed, on the whole, he was like a valuable mine, the wealth of the depths of which could not be fathomed at a glance.

Mr. Hart's funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, at his late home in Upper Nyack. His pastor, Rev. E. C. Dutcher, will officiate. Mr. Dutcher, in prayer meeting last night, tenderly announced the death, and there were few dry eyes in the crowded house.
