Memorials may be made to Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Milan, IL, or to Animal Aid Humane Society in Moline, IL. Opal Fern Logsdon was born March 15, 1921, in rural Hillsboro, IL, daughter of Charles Leroy and Mary Victoria (Bailey) Logsdon. She was married to Eugene Benner, and later was married to Orville Minteer, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Milan Presbyterian Church, and in her later life, attended Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Milan. Opal brightened the world around her with her friendliness and cute giggly smile. In her younger years, she became a beautician, and during WWII, she worked in the laboratory at the Rock Island Arsenal. She helped her country by being an election volunteer, and was also a 50-year member of Eastern Star. With almost twenty other ladies, Opal and her sister, Jewell, attended the Big Island Birthday Club meetings. She was active in the Rock Island County Home Extension for over fifty years, serving on the Board, and growing her unit to one of the largest in the Rock Island association. She was involved in 4-H for over fifty years, and during that same time was faithful in working with disabled people in the group called Handy Buds. Her fingers were kept busy crocheting, quilting, knitting, and making dainty doilies. She loved baking, and started making Blueberry Yum Yum as a tradition during the holidays. She will certainly be missed by many, many people.
