David Christopher McGowan, age 37, died on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, following a 15-month struggle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on March 10, 1969 in Charlotte, NC and is the son of Barbara G. McGowan of Wilmington, and Calvin L. McGowan and wife, Diane, of Wrightsville Beach, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy, and his grandparents.

David graduated from Cape Fear Community College and was an electronics engineer by profession; however, his favorite pastimes included spending time with his daughter, duck hunting, and restoring vintage VW buses. He was a member of Living Waters Ministries in Ogden, NC.

He is survived by a beautiful daughter, Brittany Lynn of Leland, Brittany's mother Donna P. McGowan, a sister Cheryl McDonald of Watha, NC, a brother Steve McGowan of Wrightsville Beach, NC, two nephews, Jimmy and Chris McDonald of Watha, his dearest friends, Chad Pelkey and Mary Neblett, Joe Madajski and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Market Street Chapel of Andrews Mortuary on Tuesday, January 23rd at 7:30 pm. This service will be led by Pastor Rick Crocker. A private interment will follow on Wednesday at Oleander Memorial Gardens, which will be led by Father John Stavropoulos of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

Pall bearers will be Steve McGowan, James McDonald, Chris McDonald, Chad Pelkey, Jerry McDonald, Chris Freeman, Brad Black and Drew McDaniel.

David's family would like to express their appreciation to everyone who shared their prayers, support and acts of kindness during his illness. We especially appreciate the thoughtful and caring oncology team on the 8th floor of New Hanover Regional.

Memorials may be made to the David McGowan Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Waccamaw Bank, 29 S. Kerr Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28403. This fund will provide scholarships to CFCC students who share David's passion of automobile restoration.
