She was a member of the Baptist church more than 70 years. She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, the Beaver County Retired Teacher's Association and the Women's Missionary Union of the Auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention. She married Foster Evans Nelson in Texas County in 1934.
