He was born March 6, 1929 in Putnam County, Missouri, the son of Harley and Sylvia(Billington) Bland.
He was a graduate of Martinstown High School in Martinstown, Missouri.
Dean married Mildred Darlene Fidler on July 21, 1950 in Kirksville, MO; she preceded him in death on November 21, 1995.
He married Nellie C. Thrutchley on July 28, 1997 in Apache Junction, AZ; they were later divorced.
Dean worked at Rath Packing Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed woodworking, vegetable gardening, traveling and especially visiting his cabin at Riverview Park in Cedar Falls during the summer.
Survived by: two sons, Vince Bland of Waterloo; Paul Bland of Manhattan, NY; two daughters, Linda Bland of Waterloo, Laura (Dr. Bryant) Mutchler of Bettendorf; two grandchildren Olivia and Abigail Mutchler; two brothers, Carold (Doris) Bland of Unionville, MO, Bill (Sally) Bland of Sedalia, Missouri; two sisters, Evelyn Richardson of Unionville, Missouri, Marjorie (Harold) Anderson of Holden, Missouri and a sister-in-law, Darlene Bland of La Porte City.
Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife and one brother, Dale Bland.
