GRANTS — Funeral services for Elfego Griego, 79, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Potters House-Christian Center. Pastor John Botello will officiate. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Monday at Compassion Mortuary Chapel.

A prayer service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Potters House-Christian Center.

Griego died June 23 in Grants. He was born March 1, 1925, in LaJoya, N.M.

Griego was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, the Korea Conflict and the Vietnam War. Griego retired from the Grants/Cibola Schools and the Valencia County Road Department.

Survivors include his wife, Maria "Virginia" Griego of Grants; daughters, Geraldine Rael of Milan, Ida Ortega of San Mateo; sons, Carlos Griego, David Griego, Rick Griego all of Socorro, Elfego Griego Jr., Levy Griego both of Albuquerque, Elmer Griego of Milan, Sam Griego, Anthony Griego both of Grants; sisters, Ophelia Chacon of Albuquerque, Delmira Botello of Wichita Falls, Texas, Barbara DeCosta of Socorro; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Griego was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Emma Griego; brothers, Nefie Griego, Aaron Griego and Salo Griego.

Pallbearers will be Miguel Griego, David Griego Jr., Joseph Griego, Clorinda Morrison, Phillip Griego, Tammy Gonzales, Lupita Mendez, Manuel Griego, Krystal Griego and Nicole Griego.

Compassion Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
