Mrs. Sula Roberts Borders, 92, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Deacon Cornelious and Lallie Borders Roberts.

She attended Washington School and Cleveland High School and received her diploma from Dunbar High School, Washington, D.C.

She joined Washington Baptist Church at an early age and was very active in church activities and organizations throughout her life, serving as treasurer of the Woman?s Auxiliary of the Ebenezer Association, chairman of the Liza Roberts Missionary Group, which she also served as social chairman, Sunday school teacher for 33 years, supervisor of the Washington Chorus, member of the Usher Board, treasurer of the W.M.S., member of the Mass Choir and program chairman of the Washington Missionary Department.

She was formerly a Mother of the Year.

She was employed by the U.S. government for 15 years and later was a special caretaker for Joe Billy Putnam for 10 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dorise Borders; one son, Miles Sonny Borders; five brothers, Rodney, Leroy, Detroit, Ezell and Lawrence Roberts; and one sister, Irene Roberts.

She leaves to cherish fond memories two daughters, Pauline Borders Webber of Kings Mountain and Dorothy M. Roberts of Charlotte; two sisters, Corrine Jarvis of Virginia Beach, Va., and Rosa Wray of Lawndale; six granddaughters and spouses, Doris and John Kilgore of Shelby, Tawanna and Bobby Otes of Kings Mountain, Catherine and George Howell of Cherryville, Sula and Edward Bobbitt and Cynthia Stover, all of Charlotte, and Angela Ross of Kings Mountain; 10 great-grandchildren and spouses, Tasha and Joel Watkins, Nicole and Bill Cochran, Edward Jr. and Iesha Bobbitt, Jeffrey Jackson, Shirma Stover, Devin Stover, Gregory White, Randy Brown, LaDonna Brown and Beverly and Alfred Metcalf; a special great-great-granddaughter, Tierra Watkins; and 13 other great-great-grandchildren; and a special caretaker, Pamela Thompson.

The funeral will be at Washington Missionary Baptist Church Burial will be in the church cemetery.
