Smallpox At Berlin – A day or two ago we noted the fact that the smallpox was prevailing at Berlin; we are now in enabled to state, on the authority of a citizen of the village, that it is disappearing. No new cases have appeared for some time, nor are any expected, as every precaution has been taken to prevent the spread of the disease, which has been wholly confined to the Foster families. Polk Foster contracted the disease several weeks ago at North Prairie, where he had been at work and died, perhaps 10 days or two weeks ago. His wife and two children then took it and one of the children died. Mrs. Foster and the other child have recovered, or are recovering. His brother, Joseph Foster, was next attacked, but recovered. Thomas Foster and his wife, father and mother of the brothers mentioned, also contracted the disease, and yesterday the old gentleman was buried, having died the previous day.
