Packer, Floyd Eugene
Lifelong resident of Arizona passed away on January 30, 2017. Born on April 18, 1916, in Franklin, Arizona, being one of seven children born to Edson and Mary Packer. Growing up in the Gila River Valley, the family moved to the Globe, Arizona when Floyd was eight years of age. He graduated from high school during the depression and went to work at a CCC Camp building trails and roads. During his high school years, he met his wife, Marie Greene and ran off to New Mexico to get married, a marriage that lasted 70 years. After World War II, the family settled in Phoenix, Arizona and he fulfilling a lifelong dream, establishing Packer Construction in the 1950's. Over the course of Floyd's career, Packer Construction built nine hospitals, 28 schools, three race tracks, a few jails and many residences. In 1975, Floyd retired from the construction business and moved to Sedona, Arizona, where he and his wife remained until her passing in 2008. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sylvia and wife Marie. He is survived by his son, James Edward Packer of Parks, Arizona, grandson David Nelson of Flagstaff, Arizona and Chris (Shannon) Nelson of Phoenix, Arizona, four great granddaughters, Laynie, Haylie, Winter and Lexi and one great grandson Blaise. Floyd was a person who could not sit still. During his formative years, he raised bees, sold watermelons and had a newspaper route, among other jobs that kept him busy. Even in his retirement years, he had many hobbies including working on the family cabin in Parks, Arizona. In accordance with his wishes, a graveside ceremony will be held on Monday February 6, 2017, at 11:00am. It will be held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery located at 2300 W Van Buren, Phoenix, Arizona, 85009.
