He died at home after a lengthy illness on February 3, 2017.
Vernon was born to Byron Tullos and Minnie McWilliams Tullos on December 22, 1928 in Magee, Mississippi. He graduated from Magee High School and Copiah Lincoln Junior College before serving in the 854th Medical Collecting Company of the Army during the Korean War.
His life was devoted to his Lord and his family. In 1952 he married Sybil Johnson Tullos of Feltsenthal, Arkansas. Together they shared sixty-five years of life, loving each other, raising children, traveling, and working together.
He spent many hours passing down his love for Jesus, sports and hunting to his children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was a longtime member of Washout Bayou Hunting Club and Yucatan Hunting Club. For many years he worked in the wholesale building material business mainly serving south Mississippi and Louisiana. Vernon and Sybil worked together as owners of Beltone Hearing Service in Central Mississippi for many years also. Ordained as a deacon in the Baptist Church he enjoyed serving in several churches. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Brookhaven, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lavell Tullos, Miles Tullos, Larry Tullos, his sister, Peggy Bullard and an infant son, Gary Tullos.
He is survived by son Roger (Renee) Tullos, daughter Jann (Mike) Kenney, daughter Cherry (Larry)mCollum, and son Rolan (Lynn) Tullos, grandchildren Elizabeth (Kelly) Boszor, Alex Tullos, Kari (Drew) Kennedy, Jon Michael Kenney, Blake Phillips, Jance (Eric) Hart, Lauren Tullos and Ashley Tullos, as well as six great grandchildren. Also surviving him are brothers George J (Ruby) Tullos, James (Ann) Tullos, sister-in-laws Billie Tullos and Sue Tullos, brothers-in-laws Ray Johnson and Rex Johnson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and one aunt. Special recognition is given to Helen Fitzgerald who has assisted in his care for the last nineteen months.
Services will be held at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with interment in Natchez Trace Cemetery, Madison, Mississippi. Visitation will be held Monday, February 6, 2017 and services will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
