Albert went to meet his loving God on Sunday, March 29, 2009. Mr. Shirah was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He was an employee of Bell South Telephone Company until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers and an active member of C.W.A. (Communication Workers of America) while at Bell South.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in Southland Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Rev. Amos Hann. The family will receive friends from 6-9 Tuesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
Mr. Shirah was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Dorothy Lee Fogle Shirah, two brothers Clifford and Everett and a sister Flora Driggers. Born in Rockingham, NC on January 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Hubert Shirah and Ruby Shirah Buchanan.
Mr. Shirah is survived by his son, Albert R. Shirah, Jr. and his daughter, Debra Douglas and his loving grandchildren, Drew and Michael.
