Martha Ayers Bishop
(Pioneers Of Armstrong Co. Tex.)
1893
Martha, (Mattie to her family ) was an excellent cook. Her bread won first prize at the county fairs. She reared her family of seven boys and one girl on the best of things to eat; and taught them, as they grew to stalwart manhood, to be unafraid of work.
Mrs. Bishop was proud, but she was not ashamed of honest toil. She had a fine French taste in dress and manners; her family always appreciated her careful grooming. So many transient guests made connections of the trains, there, that she met many interesting people, and many people also found her interesting. After the children were all married and had moved away, the home was sold and Mr. & Mrs. Bishop went to Amarillo to live. He passed away in 1918, then she lived with the children until the year of 1934, when the gates of Heaven opened and the angels led her in.
