Ben Omann was born June 1, 1919, in St. Stephen to Frank and Helen (Trobec) Omann Sr. He married Olivia Schumer July 4, 1944, in St. Stephen and farmed in the St. Stephen area all his married life. He established Omann Insurance Agency in St. Joseph and Sartell, was a former state senator from District 16, and he had been re-elected to his third term for House District 16A on Nov 4, 1986.

He was a member of St. Stephen Parish, Knights of Columbus Bishop Trobec Council 5276, St. Stephen Lions Club, St. Stephen Athletic Club, St. Stephen Sportsman's Club, St. Stephen Men's Society, member and past director of St. Stephen choir and past member of St. Stephen School Board and Stearns Electric Association Board.
