Henry was the eldest son of Lewis A. and Joanna Stokes.

He married Martha Ann Dixon on November 10, 1881, in Charlton County, Georgia. She was the daughter of John and Mary Franklin Dixon.

Henry and Martha had at least nine (9) children:
1. Lewis b. 1881
2. Rosezetta b. 1882, marr. William F. Sweat
3. John Wesley b. 1884
4. Victoria b. 1890, marr. W. R. Johnson
5. Burt b. 1891
6. Franklin Christopher b. 1894
7. Horace b. 1895
8. Gentry (male) b. 1896
9. Emory b. 1898

His grave is marked in the Ramah Cemetery with a wooden marker but unreadable.

After Henry's death, the widowed Martha married Edmund Cable Parker in December 3, 1903 Starke, Florida and they had five (5) children.
