Clayton served his country in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1977 as a Seaman earning the National Defense Service Medal. He then Joined the Army Reserves and served with them from 1977-1978.
After the Military he settled in Iowa where he raised his four children, then he eventually moved to South Dakota to be near family. In 2003 Clayton moved back to California to marry his soulmate Diana.
Clayton was preceded in death by his son Shane Allen Johnson, who passed away at birth, his brother Tony Duane Johnson who was killed in Iraq April 9, 2004, and by his brother-in-law Steve Cohen of Pennsylvania.
Clayton is survived by his wife of 13 years Diana Johnson, his parents Clayton Sr. and Betty Johnson of South Dakota; Son Cody Johnson of Minnesota;Daughter and son-in-law Ashley and Travis Meier of South Dakota; Son and daughter Jesse and Ambria of Iowa; Stepson Randy Walls of Texas; Stepdaughter and son-in-law Kristyn and Rob Spongberg of Riverside; step-daughter Chastity Anderson and Nate Bauer of Iowa; sisters Donna Cohen of Pennsylvania, Nancy and bro-in-law Terry of South Dakota, and Sharon Johnson of South Dakota. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many loving and lifetime friends.
