Funeral for Jerry C. Leon Wooten Sr., 80, Lawton, will be at noon Monday, June 13, 2016, in the Howard-Harris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. D. D. McHenry, pastor, New Jerusalem Baptist Church, officiating.

Mr. Wooten died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, in Lawton.

Burial with military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Howard-Harris Funeral Services.

He was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Clarksville, Texas, to Earl "Bud" Wooten Sr. and Rosie Scales Wooten. His mother, Rosie, died early in his life and his oldest sister, Juanita, became a surrogate mother to Jerry and all of his siblings. After his sister, Juanita, married John Baker, the family along, with Jerry, moved to Lawton. He was educated in public schools of Lawton, where he graduated from Douglass High School in 1955. While in high school, he was involved sports and became a star football player under Coach Herbert C. King. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served three years. After returning to Lawton, he was employed as a cook and worked also in the Logistics-Service Department at Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill until he retired.

He married Elizabeth Banks. Three children were born to this union: Brenda Joyce, Phyllis Elizabeth and Charles Edward. The marriage ended and he married Morell Butler Wooten. He loved his family and loved being around family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters: Phyllis E. Holland, Syracuse, N.Y., and Michelle Wooten, Lawton; two sons: Charles Edward Mann, Syracuse, N.Y., and Jerry Wooten Jr., Lawton; his grandsons: Kirk Rahymes, Lawton, and Jeremy Mann and Joshua Mann, Syracuse, N.Y.; his granddaughter, Krista Mann, Syracuse, N.Y.; his sister-in-law, Elnora Wooten, Buena Park, Calif.; a special friend, Paula Taylor; many nephews and nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Morell Wooten; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Wooten; his sisters: Juanita Baker, Lawton; Christella Chivers, Kansas City, Mo.; and Hazel Young, Wichita Falls, Texas; and a brother, Earl Wooten Jr., Lawton.
