BERNICE K. ABBETT, 94, of Roanoke, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Bernice was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Whit-ley County, a daughter of Frederick and Lena (Dreyer) Kehmeyer. On Jan. 16, 1943, she married her beloved husband of 66 years, William O. "Bill" Abbett in Columbia City, and he passed away Sept. 18, 2009. She graduated from Washington Center High School and worked at the Coil Factory in Roanoke and as a waitress at Tall Pine Caf‚ bakery and restaurant. She was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church. Surviving are her two sons, Tim (Ada "Skipp") Abbett of Zanesville and Dan (Linda) Abbett of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Jennifer Abbett of Linton, Steve (Kelli) Abbett of Bluffton, and Lori (Chad) Vaughan of New Haven; and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Wallis and Mildred Mesing; and three brothers, Verlin Kehmeyer, Walter Kehmeyer, and Carl Hochemeyer. Funeral service is 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Joshua Johnson officiating. Entombment will be in Coventry Memorial Gardens- Fort Wayne.
