NEWPORT NEWS - Mrs. Betty Lee Walton, 70, departed this earthly life to be planted as one of Our Father God's prize roses on Dec. 14, 2002, after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Emporia, Va. (formerly Greensville Co.). She had been a Newport News resident for 56 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church East End. She was the daughter of the late Emmett and Alberta Mabery. Mrs. Walton was a retired homemaker who took pride in her family and her home. She was known as 'Mom' to all that entered into her life because of her motherly love and care she shared with all. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Fannie Mabery, Eva Williams, Margaret Garner, Laurine Taylor and Louise Lewis, and two brothers, William (Bill) and Haywood Mabery.

She leaves to cherish her in spirit and love husband, Earnest; daughter, Tracey L. Witts; son-in-law, Darrell L. Witts; brothers, Ray (Jean) Mabery of Emporia, Va., and Gilbert (Roxanne) Mabery of Long Island, N.Y.; three brothers-in-law, Albert (Alice) Walton and Rufus Walton of Richmond, Va., and Charlie B. Williams of Emporia, Va.; two very special nieces, Ola M. Williams of Emporia, Va., and Cora G. Randle of Mechanicsville, Va.; a very special friend, Mrs. Susie Scott of Newport News, Va.; many other nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her beyond words.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at First Baptist Church East End. The body will be placed in the church two hours prior to the Homegoing service. Burial will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
