Perry was the son of Squire E. & Ellen Laughlin Hickam. He married Lannie Taylor, the daughter of Walter Clarence Taylor & Bertha Cordie Willis Taylor. They were the parents of S.E., Bertie Juanita and Mary Ellen Hickam. The couple's marriage ended in divorce, in 1945. Mr. Hickam earned his living by working as a house painter. He passed away from the effects of pulmonary tuberculosis.
