After a short battle with cancer, Barbara D. Vernon left this world to be with the Lord on January 29, 2017. She was in Hospice care at Grace Living Center in Oklahoma City. She was born on April 27, 1934 to Lennie Irven and Helen Elizabeth Cheney of Colby, Kansas.

Barbara was a loving, dedicated, devoted wife, mother, and friend. She had a wonderful wit and enjoyed a good practical joke. She was a caregiver to many and compassionate for those in need. She rarely missed a sporting event when her children or grandchildren were involved. Barbara enjoyed gardening, sewing, and caring for her home. She was a true vessel of God’s love, mercy, and grace.

Barbara was the youngest daughter of three children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Evan; siblings: brother, Irven and sister, Betty Cheney Blake. She is survived by her children: son, Mickey Ray Vernon and wife Katherine, daughter, Vicky Lynn and husband Dr. Ronald C. Grant; three grandchildren, Natasha, Melissa and husband Craig, and Christopher; four great-grandchildren, Adriana, Isabella, Adam and Guy.

The viewing will be held on Friday, February 3, 10am-8pm, at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Saturday, February 4, 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel, Bethany, OK. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Mr. (Coach) Mike Flenniken, 2618 Treece Rd. NE, Piedmont, OK 73078. Mr. Flenniken educates and provides cancer patients with homeopathic treatments for their disease. Donations can also be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.
