Betty Louise Peters, age 83, passed away peacefully in her home the morning of Sunday, January 15, 2017. At the time of her death, Betty was a resident of the caring and loving Chateau-Bothell community in Bothell, Washington. Prior to moving to Washington, Betty had been a longtime member of the Roy, Oregon community.

From the time of her birth on May 1, 1933 in Forsythe, Montana until the time she went to heaven, Betty nourished everyone around her with love and faith in Jesus. She was the only child born to William Perry Bryant and Louise (Markham) Bryant. Betty and her family followed her father's career in road construction which led to a childhood on the road, living from town-to-town wherever work could be found west of the Rockies.

Following her 1951 graduation from Johnson County High School in Buffalo, Wyoming, Betty went on to major in Music at Colorado Women’s College in Denver, for two years, and then completed her Bachelor of Art degree as a double-major in Music and Education at University of Colorado in Boulder. Upon completion of her college education, she began her career teaching junior high in Casper, Wyoming.

Betty met Frank Leland Mowery, during high school in Buffalo. They were married in that same town, in 1954, and had three children together: Vaughn, Perry and Sheri. Betty and Frank made their home in Casper, Wyoming until their marriage ended in 1969 when Betty and the children moved to Eugene, Oregon. While in Eugene, Betty attended University of Oregon and, in 1971, received her Master of Science Degree in Special Education. Betty then moved her three children to Beaverton, Oregon where she promptly secured employment as a Learning Disabilities Specialist with the Beaverton School District.

While playing Bridge in the apartment complex they both shared, Betty met and began to date Verle Peters. The two were married on September 1, 1972 - in Beaverton - and blended their two families together (a total of seven children) ranging in age from five-to-fifteen years. Betty and Verle successfully raised their large family in Beaverton, until 1992, when they purchased and moved to a farm in the small agricultural community of Roy, Oregon – which Betty described as ”a major cultural change”. Verle succumbed to lung cancer and passed away on September 17, 2009. Two-and-a-half years later, Betty chose to relocate to Bothell, Washington so she could live near her three adult children and their families.

As a Special Education Teacher, Betty worked for the Beaverton School District for twenty years, teaching at McKinley Elementary, Chehalem Elementary and, finally, Rock Creek Elementary School. For many years, she was a member in the Beaverton Alpha-Nu chapter of the worldwide Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators and served two separate terms as President of that chapter. During her final two years as a teacher, Betty studied-for and obtained her Real Estate license. She retired from teaching in 1991 and began a whole new career selling real estate with Lutz Snyder for another ten years.

Betty enjoyed traveling with Verle, in their RV, and they spent many winters “snow-birding” to Arizona. During adulthood, Betty also traveled internationally to Israel, Italy and Sweden. Whether serving as Board member of the Missionary Commission or as Sunday School Superintendent, throughout her life Betty was always active in her local church, wherever she lived at the time. Most recently her home churches have been Forest Grove First Baptist Church (Forest Grove, Oregon) and Northshore Community Church (Bothell, Washington). Betty loved music, especially singing. She also enjoyed reading, playing dominos and other games. Betty was a pet lover – in recent years to Verle’s and her beloved dog “Chula”.

Betty will be remembered as a bright, shining light in the various communities where she worked and lived, and in the many churches where she sang and served the Lord throughout her lifetime. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Verle, her parents and two step-daughters, Jennifer Peters and Barbara Peters. Survivors include Betty’s children and their spouses: Vaughn and Kathleen Mowery of Issaquah, WA; Perry and Lise Mowery of Bothell, WA; Sheri and Jake Harrison of Lynnwood, WA; plus two step-daughters and their spouses: Antoinette "Toni" and Bruce Schlobohm of Fremont, CA; Jodi and Doug Imes of Greer, SC. Betty was the proud Grandmother to seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for Betty at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Forest Grove First Baptist Church, 2224 - 15th Avenue in Forest Grove, Oregon. Family members and friends are invited for a luncheon in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. Burial will take place at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery where Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Verle Peters.

An additional memorial service will be held for Betty at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Northshore Community Church, 10301 NE 145th Street in Kirkland (Bothell), Washington followed by a reception at that church where Betty has attended for the last four-plus years.
