Dennis Burford Griffith, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home, January 26, 2017. Dennis was a graduate of St. Mary High School and did his undergraduate studies at Brescia College and received his graduate degree at Western Kentucky University. He spent over 35 years in the school system as a teacher and Guidance Counselor. The majority of his career was spent at Lone Oak High School. Dennis worked at Paducah Community College and taught for seven years in Illinois. He then worked several years as a Guidance Counselor at St. Mary High School before retiring. Always someone who enjoyed teaching and reaching out to young people, he could never completely retire and still enjoyed connecting with students as a substitute teacher. He also coached several basketball teams, including the first Girls Lone Oak Purple Flash team. He was a bit of a daredevil and enjoyed thrilling adventures. One of his favorite tales was of his experiences riding his Harley Davidson along Route 66 to Alaska.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Rita Frances Milliner Griffith; his daughter, Deborah Sarno, her husband, Jamie, children, Jacob, Aidan and Ethan of Prospect, KY; son, John Griffith, his wife, Laura of Paducah KY, children Olivia and Jack Riley; and daughter, Jill Falinski, her husband, Larry of Louisville KY. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Griffith and wife, Bernadette, children, Leslie, Jennifer, Andrea and Rob of St. Louis. He doted on his 5 grandchildren and attended countless basketball, baseball, softball and lacrosse games, wrestling tournaments and cross country meets.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Marie and his parents, Robert and Virginia Sanderson Griffith of Paducah, KY.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Brad Whistle officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services with prayers at 6:30pm.
