Mary worked as an operator for General Telephone for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. She lived an active lifestyle and volunteered at the Alma Hospital for many years. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alma. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, knitting, playing euchre and taking bus trips. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children, Peggy (Wayne) Harger, Ellen (Skip) Wertz, Linda (Neil) Allen and Roger (Bev) Bigelow; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Stella Karek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eston; a granddaughter, Jody Lynn Allen; and her siblings, Ted, Wanda, Stan, George, Helen and Frank.
A private family funeral service will be held at Nativity of the Lord Catholic Church. Interment will follow in North Star Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging.
