Columbus, Kansas: Martha Carolyn Rowton, age 90, of Columbus, Kansas, passed away the morning of January 26, 2017, at Medicalodge.
She was born February 16, 1926 to Henry Edward and Zela Chasteline (Carroll) King, in Brundidge, Alabama.
Carolyn married Raymond R. Rowton on June 25, 1943 in Brundidge, before moving to the Columbus area shortly after their marriage. He preceded her in death July 1, 1992, and she remained in Columbus, living in the area for just over 70 years.
She worked as a seamstress for the Garment Factory; also acting as owner and operator of the City Café in Columbus with Raymond, a business that they ran for nearly four years together.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Columbus, The Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary, and the Rebekahs.
Every morning she would go to the restaurant to drink her coffee, and enjoyed making crafts, specifically crafts for the Elm Acres girls.
Carolyn is survived by her three daughters: Rosa Schmidt (husband Ed) of Oswego, Kansas, Raye Clark (husband John) of Columbus, Kansas, and Faye Rowton of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Rupert King and Edward King; and one sister: Joet Connell.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 30 at Park Cemetery in Columbus, Kansas.
Dennis Johnson will officiate.
