Siebert M. Popinga, 61, Donnybrook, ND, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at a Minot hospital. Siebert was born on September 19, 1955, in Kenmare, ND, the son of Siebert and Engel Popinga. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Messiah Lutheran Church, Greene, ND. He was raised with his two brothers in rural Donnybrook, where he still resided.Siebert was a graduate of Donnybrook High School and attended Wahpeton School of Science for two years studying diesel mechanics. After college he worked several years for area farmers and for the Donnybrook Elevator from 1980 to 1984 and at DJ's Bar for several years. Most recently he had been employed as a distributor for Nichols Shovels since 1986, serving dealers in a wide area.He was a longtime member and officer of the Donnybrook Fire Department and a Jaycee member. He also did volunteer work at the Donnybrook City Park and Community Center.Siebert enjoyed celebrating holidays with relatives, morning coffee with friends, playing card, fixing things for kids, restoring old vehicles, and going to auction sales. Survivors: brothers, John (Lori) Popinga, Salem, OR and Dean Popinga, Minot; nieces, Jessica (Matthew) Wangler and Jara Popinga; great-niece, Morgan Wangler and great-nephew, Kolton Wangler; cousins in the area, Betty (Fred) Johnson, Carpio, Melvin (Ida) Popinga, Donnybrook, Harvey (Judy) Popinga, Donnybrook and Margaret (David) Hall, Newburg and Aunt, Sigreid (Hermann) Holtzkampfer, Greetseil, Germany. Siebert was preceded in death by his parents and numerous relatives in Germany.Funeral Service: Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Minot.
