90, of Liverpool, formerly of E. Cortland St., Groton, passed away Monday, January 16, 2007, at the Birchwood Care Center in Liverpool. Mrs. Cleary was born July 14, 1916, in Utica, a daughter of the late Charles and Madeline McManus, and was raised in Syracuse. Helen married William H. Cleary in Oct. 1936 and they moved to Groton in 1942 where she resided until 2006. Mrs. Cleary was a 1936 graduate of Oswego Normal School, and she had been an elementary teacher for the Groton Central School District for 40 years. After retirement, she traveled extensively for 20 years throughout Europe and Mexico. Mrs. Cleary was a member of the Fortnightly Club in Groton and the N.Y.S. Retired Teachers Assoc. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Geraldine Cleary of Liverpool; her granddaughter, Katherine (Edward) Buchanan and great-grandson, Logan Buchanan, of West Monroe; and a brother, Dr. Peter McManus of North Colonie. Mrs. Cleary was predeceased by her husband, William, in May 1999, and by her son, Patrick M. Cleary, in August 2006.
