Pauline "Polly" Poston Mathews, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in the mountains of NC to parents William Basil and Edna P. Poston. It was there she met the love of her life, Felton F. Mathews, and they were married for 53 years. Polly was a Charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery, and loved on her babies, and the WMU. Health issues had prevented her from attending for several years but she still loved her church and church family. She was a wonderful prayer warrior for her family. She loved sewing, crocheting and gardening. She loved reading, especially her Bible. A part of her heart was always in the mountains of NC and she loved visiting family there every opportunity she got.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Felton and her infant son. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Farmer and Nancy Deaver, and brothers Clarence, Aubert and Everette Poston.
She is survived by a son Charles W. (Goldie Williams) Mathews and daughters Linda M. Lewis and Joan M. (Danny) Cassidy. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Surviving also is her brother Hugh A. Poston, Lebonon, PA.
The family will receive friends and family from 2:30 - 3:30 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville. Graveside service will follow at 4:00 at Westview Cemetery with Dr. Kevin Walters and grandson Frankie Johnson officiating.
The family would like to thank Hospice of SC for their loving care given to "Ms. Pauline" in her last months. Also special thanks to Annette Johnson for sitting with her at home.
