Thomas Shewmaker, age 71, died Saturday night at 10 o'clock at his home in Glenwood, following a serious illness of two weeks. He was a retired farmer and had lived for about a year in Glenwood, having lived 30 years in the Henderson neighborhood. He was born January 28, 1879 in Mercer County, Kentucky, son of William and Isabelle Conder Shewmaker. The deceased was a Spanish-American war veteran. Survivors include the widow, the former Love Preston, four sons and two daughters, William, New Salem, Delbert of Glenwood, James of Rush County, Cecil of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Maynard Ball of Fairview and Mrs. Sam Hazelbaker of Anderson. He also Is survived by eight grandchildren. Funeral services will.be, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Moster Mortuary in charge of the Rev. Victor Koontz. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 4 p. m. today.

*Fought in the Spanish American War; was also stationed at the Quartermaster Corp at Ft. Sam Houston.

Son of William Shewmaker b. 1845 and Isabelle Condor b. 1845; he had the following siblings: Daniel b. 1866; Silas b. 1869; Elizabeth b. 1872; Levi M. b. 1875; Cynthia Ann b. 1881; David A. & James R. (twins) b. 1884; and Mary Margaret Shewmaker b. 1891.
