STANFORD - Carl V. Speaks, a former funeral director and business owner, died Saturday after a short illness. He was 62.
Mr. Speaks was a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He was a former partner of the Beazley-Raney-Speaks Funeral Home in Stanford.
He also was a former owner and operator of Speaks Flower Shop, a former partner and operator of Ensslin -Speaks Cold Storage Warehouses and a former partner and operator of the Speaks Wholesale Co.
Mr. Speaks also was an insurance agent for the Modern Woodmen of America.
He is survived by his wife, Melva Dean Locker Speaks; a son, Hamilton Owen Speaks of Berea; four sisters, Georgia Shell of Lancaster, Linda May of Gilbert, W.Va., Pat Walter of Harrodsburg and Jo Ann Garrett of Louisville; one grandson, Lee Hamilton Durham Speaks of Stanford; and several other relatives.
