Giles Louis Dodson, a believer in Jesus Christ, died on Saturday, January 13, 2007 in Robstown, Texas after a lengthy illness.

Born in Corpus Christi on June 25, 1919 to David M. and Frances Brown Dodson, Giles attended Sunshine School and was a 1937 graduate of Corpus Christi High School. In August of that same year, he married his childhood sweetheart, Evelyn Parry.

Giles owned a dairy and then farmed in Nueces County, a profession he loved and continued for over sixty years. He farmed in the London, Chapman Ranch, and Petronila areas and lived his entire life in Nueces County. Giles served as president of the London School Board, president of the London Co-op Gin, and as chairman of the Nueces County ASCS committee. He was one of the first three men to serve on the Federal Crop Insurance Board.

Ordained as a deacon in 1945, Giles served the Lord faithfully as a member, teacher, and servant for over thirty-five years at Travis Baptist and at Gardendale Baptist (now Real Life Fellowship) for the past twenty-six years. He loved the church and was a loyal friend and support to the pastors with whom he served. His most notable work was in being a Godly friend to many, a faithful husband, and a loving father and consistent role model to his children and grandchildren. Giles's and Evelyn's home was filled with love, fun, food, friends, music, and grace. Giles showed us how to work, worship, and live with character, and was always quick to give God the credit for any good in his life. His sense of humor, work ethic, love for his family, and devotion to his Lord were among his strongest character traits.

Giles is preceded in death by his parents David M. Dodson and Fannie D. Weber, his step-father Fred Weber, his wife Evelyn, a sister, Gussie Mae Hemme, and his eldest son, Giles Lee Dodson.

He is survived by one daughter, Margie (Wayne) Lambert of Robstown, two sons, D. Barnard Dodson (Alandra) of Boerne, and Jimmy Dodson (Barbara) of Robstown, and a daughter-in-law Glenda Dodson of San Antonio. He is also survived by one sister, Davie Darlene McBride (Frank) of McKinney.

Giles leaves eight grandsons: Giles Glenn Dodson, Gary Lee Dodson, David B. Dodson, Jr., Daniel P. Dodson, D. Quinton Dodson, G. Randall Lambert, Ronald W. Lambert, and J. Bryan Dodson.

He is also survived by four granddaughters: Kelly S. Byerley, Roxanne D. Ancy, Lori C. McDonald, and Licia M. Dodson. He leaves twenty-one great-grandchildren, five nephews, two nieces, and an extended family of cousins and life-long friends.

Giles's eight grandsons will serve as pall bearers.

Family visitation was held at Seaside Funeral Home on Jan. 14. A service to celebrate his life was held at Real Life Fellowship, Corpus Christi, TX. Jan. 15.

Interment followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
