Sarah Ellen "Ella" Pangborn Butcher Bywater was the daughter of Theodore Pangborn and Emery Elizabeth McClanahan.

On 17 October 1891 she married Charles Arthur Butcher in Onawa, Monona County, Iowa. Of their union four children were born:

Bessie (Butcher) McCan, Pflieger, Gwennap 1892-1975
Charles Elmer Butcher 1895-1906
Ransford Arthur Butcher 1909-1998
? Butcher. -The 1900 census notes Bessie was the mother of 3 children but only two still living - Bessie & Charles. This child does not appear on the 1895 Iowa Census and would have been born & died 1893-94 or 1895-1900 after the Iowa census but before the Federal Census.

After Charles death she married in Adelbert Bywater on 6 September 1922 He died in 1930.

Ella lived in Marshalltown, Iowa for more than 25 years at the end of her life in close proximity to her son Ransford. She last appears in the Marshalltown directory in 1951. Her parents are buried in Marshalltown as is her son Ransford. It is likely that she is buried there as well, though no record has been located yet.
