COAL VALLEY — Francis C. French, 90, formerly of Coal Valley, passed away Jan. 14, 2017. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial with military honors by American Legion Post 26 will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the family or American Legion Post 26.

He was born in Rock Island, and served in the U.S. military in several branches over a 30 year period. Francis married Vera Thompson. She preceded him in death. He later married Judith Markin. She also preceded him in death.

He was employed by Bendix Corp. prior to his retirement. His memberships include Scott County Rescue Unit and American Legion Post 26.

Survivors include daughters, Terry Ray and Shirley Woodford; sons, Charles French and Bill Crafts; step-children, Dean Devoss and Crystal; and numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Glen “Butch” Crafts.
