From Mary Ann Walker Norton's DAR application:
Daniel Terhune's application for a pension shows that he was born December 29, 1758 (in Middlesex Co. New Jersey). He resided in Poughkeepsie, N. Y. in 1776 where he entered the service as a substitute for his brother, John Terhune, (who was sick), in Captain Stephen Duryea's company, Colonel Abraham Cortland's regiment, and served nine months.

He volunteered soon after in Captain Henry Dubois' company of infantry; was at Tappan when Major Andre was hanged; three months. Also served short tours under Captain John Van Benschoten, Matthew Van Benschoten and others), Colonel Abraham Brinkerhoff. Believes he served more than three years near the close of the war; he removed to New Jersey where he remained until 1808 when he removed to Fleming County, Kentucky.

He applied for a pension March 7, 1836 at which time he lived at Flemingsburg, Fleming County, Kentucky; Certificate issued April 5, 1836; Pensioned at $20.00 per annum to commence March 4, 1831, for service of six months as a private.

Soldier's brother, Abraham Terhune, resident in vicinity of Princeton, New Jersey, aged seventy-five years in 1836, testifies to having served with him. His Certificate Number was 30,533, issued April 5, 1836, Act June 7, 1832, Agency, Kentucky.
