SPRING GROVE – Amos W. Cornbower, 68, husband of Mrs. Erma Rohrbaugh Cornbower, 124 West Hanover Street, died Tuesday at 8 a.m. at York Hospital, where he had been a patient five weeks. He had been in ill health for eight years.
Mr. Cornbower, a native of Codorus Township, near Jefferson, was a son of the late Francis W. and Lucinda Shearer Cornbower. He had resided in Spring Grove the past 42 years.
He retired in 1970 after 44 years of service at the P. H. Glatfelter Company, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club of the company.
Mr. Cornbower was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, of Jefferson, and was an honorary member of Friendship Hose Company and the Firemens' Relief Association.
Surviving also are seven children, Mrs. Richard Brillhart and Laverne Cornbower, both of Jefferson; Francis Cornbower; Mrs. Robert Schuchart and Mark Cornbower, all of Hanover; Mrs. Jack Gingerich, Spring Grove, and Dean Cornbower, York RD 8; 19 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and a step-great-granddaughter, and nine brothers and sisters, Mrs. Mantilla Smith, Seven Valleys RD 2; Mrs. Sarah Ehrhart, York New Salem; Mrs. Raymond Shaffer, Seven Valleys RD 1; Chester Cornbower, Spring Grove RD 1; Mrs. Mary Kaltreider, Hanover; Mrs. John Klinedinst, Mrs. Roy Dubs and Mrs. Lettie Kaltreider, all of Spring Grove RD 2, and Mrs. Howard Keeney, Abbottstown.
The Rev. Donald E. Mummert, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Earl E. Redding, retired minister and associate pastor at Fourth United Methodist Church of York, will officiate at the funeral Friday at 2 p.m. from Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery.
