Ruth A. James, 87 of Girard passed away at 3:36 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Prairie Mission Assisted Living Facility of Saint Paul, Kansas.
She was born January 4, 1930 in Carl Junction, Missouri, the daughter of Nova Charles and Vera Ruth (Ladd) Collins.
She grew up and spent her childhood on Spring River near Carl Junction later moving to the McCune, Kansas area. She attended school in Carl Junction and McCune; she graduated from the McCune High School in 1948.
She was united in marriage to James Hodges, he preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to William L. “Bud” James on September 29, 1952 in Girard; he survives of the home.
She was a homemaker and a store clerk for Walter Wayland.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Girard and was involved in the various ladies groups at the church. She was a Girl Scout, Cub and Boy Scout leader in Girard.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and home canning.
Her time at Prairie Mission awarded her an opportunity to touch others with her friendly smile and heart of gold.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Bud of the home, are sons David Lee James and wife Alice of Girard, Kansas, Kip James and wife Pam of Van Buren, Arkansas; her daughters Barbara Jo Doramus and husband Dale of Wichita, Kansas, Janet Shaffer and husband Jack of McCune, Kansas, Joyce Wade and husband Brian of Erie, Kansas, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one brother, Paul Collins and wife Wanda of McMinville, Oregon, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Collins and one grandchild.
Services for Ruth A. James will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, January 12 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Friends may call at the Funeral Home after 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
