John Harold Statema, 74, Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND. John H. Statema was born August 22, 1942 in Hillman, MN to Bote "Bert" and Helen (Garrison) Statema. He was the youngest of four children.

After several moves the family resided in Deadwood, SD, where John graduated from high school. He then joined the Army as an MP. Shortly after leaving the Army he met Rosemary Wenda and they later wed on August 29, 1966. John worked in Law Enforcement for 38 years. Serving in the Linton, ND and Watford City, ND, Police Departments. He then went on to serve as Deputy Sheriff in the Pembina County and Foster County Sheriff's Departments, eventually serving as Sheriff of Foster County. John loved camping and fishing and of course his beloved Black Hills in SD.

John is survived by two sons, John (Jill) Statema, Paul Statema; two grandchildren Jazzlyn; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rose, one brother, two sisters and one infant granddaughter.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, January 13 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.

Visitation: one hour before service. Burial: 3:00 PM, Friday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
